A hydrophilic dental implant surface is the single most-studied predictor of fast, predictable osseointegration. When a titanium dental implant is hydrophilic — when blood spreads instantly across it instead of beading up — protein adsorbs faster, fibrin attaches faster, osteoblasts arrive faster, and bone forms faster. The biology is well established. What is a hydrophilic dental implant?
A hydrophilic dental implant has a titanium surface that "loves water" — when blood or saline contacts it, the liquid spreads completely across the surface (low contact angle) rather than beading up. This wettability is what allows protein, blood and bone-forming cells to interact with the implant surface efficiently in the critical early healing phase.
Are all dental implants hydrophilic?
No. While modern dental implants leave the factory with a hydrophilic, bioactive surface, that property degrades over time as hydrocarbons from the surrounding air settle on the titanium. After a few weeks or months in storage, most implants are partially or fully hydrophobic again. SQUVA reverses this in 10 seconds chair-side, so every dental implant you place is hydrophilic at the moment of placement.

How is SQUVA different from buying pre-treated hydrophilic dental implants?
Pre-treated hydrophilic dental implants (such as SLActive) ship in a wet/sealed package designed to preserve hydrophilicity until placement. The product works — but the surface still ages once opened, and you're locked into one manufacturer at a premium price.
